About Kambo

What Is Kambo?

Kambo is a peptide cocktail; a secretion containing over 100 peptides, each one having a different function in the body. Although there is a common misconception about the medicine, it is NOT a frog poison, as it is often described. In fact, it is a very efficient liver detox. I like to describe the liver as a pool that for most goes without being cleaned the duration of our lives. Kambo is a systemic anti-inflammatory, and inflammation is at the root of so many health issues, both mental and physical. This section will outline the many different aspects and explain the complexities of what this medicine is and what it does for us in mind, body and spirit.

What Makes Kambo So Powerful and Special?

Kambo is a multidimensional healing modality in and of itself. It facilitates transformation across the dimensions of the physical, spiritual, emotional, mental, and energetic. Sickness and health BOTH are produced from the body, mind and spirit. The only difference between a living body and a corpse is the energy and spirit moving through it, and its ability to reach all of its parts. When we have spots through which energy cannot flow, stagnation and illness result. These spots are caused from trauma, either emotional, mental or physical, and there is interplay between.

"Our physical ailments are often symbolic expressions of unresolved emotional and spiritual wounds"

-Caroline Myss

Kambo restores balance and moves itself into “cold spots”, or blockages in our energetic bodies. Its focus is on the restoration of the original, healthful state of the body rather than ONLY assisting with alleviation of symptoms (although it certainly does this, as well). It allows the body to produce what it needs, gets the wheels turning and reinvigorates the flow necessary to create lasting health and miraculous healing from within. The ancient peoples of all cultures knew of this energetic aspect of the body, and it is called by many names. Kundalini, Qi (Chi), Prana, Ka, æther all refer to varying aspects of the energy channels that move through the body keeping it well and alive. The healers of the ancient world knew that true and lasting healing could not be facilitated unless these aspects were addressed.

Sacred plant/spirit medicines have the ability to heal on a DNA level. Not to change our DNA, but to RESTORE it to its original blueprint. Our sick, poisoned, and hurting world systems have been targeting, damaging and modifying our DNA from all angles, including vaccinations, endocrine destroying chemicals in the air, food, GMO’s, tap water, household products, micro-plastic fabrics and pharmaceuticals. Most of the things that destroy the human have become so normal that we don’t even think about them, and many of us are simply unaware. There is no escaping any of it at this juncture, so my approach is to rid the body of the toxins we do have the control to eliminate, bring awareness to our lifestyle choices, and to strengthen and fortify from the inside out. Once we have a clean vessel, we ourselves become efficient filtration systems for these ills of the modern world. We may then thrive as our bodies are designed to.

What to Expect During a Session

While each session is very different, there are a few things you can be sure to expect. Following 10 to 12 hours of fasting, you will drink 1.5 to 2 liters of water. In order to cross the blood-brain barrier, the skin is burned with an incense stick in small dots commonly referred to as “gates” or “points”. The top layer of skin is then gently removed and the wet medicine placed onto the gates. In doing so, the medicine is absorbed into the lymphatic system.

The peptides in the medicine cause a number of changes in the body, such as rapid heart rate, facial flushing, heat in the ears, and the contraction of the stomach muscles to induce vomiting. Some people experience facial swelling during ceremony (referred to as “frog face” from the lymphatic flush), tingling of the hands and feet, constriction of hand muscles, itching, or various other things depending on the conditions they are seeking to resolve, but they are generally limited to the session itself or shortly after. The session can last anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour from the time the medicine is placed onto the skin. No two sessions are ever the same.

Depending on how I am called to facilitate your session, I may sing, shake a chacapa (a rattle made of leaves), breathe, make sounds, use crystal wands, use Solfeggio tuning forks, play singing bowls, ring Tibetan bells, administer rapéh (a powdered plant and tobacco blend blown into the nose), burn palo santo or sage, or whatever else may help facilitate the movement of the medicine. I am simply there to monitor your physical responses to the medicine, and be present for you to process and be with whatever comes up. Repressed emotions may surface, as part of your process. Afterwards, the medicine is removed and you will rest lying down for up to an hour. A tree resin called croton lecheri (dragon's blood) can be applied to your wounds to create a seal over the "gates", if you wish.

The Science Behind the Medicine

The implications for kambo and its plethora of peptides are truly astounding. Containing 139 known peptides, its capacity for healing a diverse array of illnesses is unparalleled. Italian two-time Nobel prize winning scientist, chemist, and pharmacologist Vittorio Erspamer was the first to conduct studies on kambo in a lab setting. He was responsible for the discovery of the neurotransmitter serotonin and its precursor 5-HTP, as well as the classification, synthesis, and pharmocological studies of 60 new chemical compounds. He describes kambo as, “a fantastic chemical cocktail with potential medical applications, unequaled by any other amphibian”.

In the tab below are studies on some of the specific peptides within kambo and their verifiable and extensive health benefits, and also a comprehensive list of several articles detailing what has been studied so far.

Most studies are on the effects of the medicine while it is working through the system, rather than before and after results or bloodwork comparisons, at least for now. Hopefully, in the near future that will change.

Very unfortunately, due to the astonishing results of the studies that do exist, pharmaceutical companies are already rushing to patent several of the peptides found in the frog medicine. 70 patents exist currently in the U.S. alone, and peptides are being used intravenously to cure many different types of cancer. Personally, I feel that the real thing straight from the source is always better than any pharmaceutical genetic replica, considering that many pharmaceuticals carelessly put in needless additives or toxic ingredients for shelf life and preservation, and MOST (but not all) pharmaceuticals have long term negative impacts that counteract most of the initial health benefits achieved. Spirit medicines are more than just chemistry, hence their name.

What are peptides?

Peptides are short chain amino acids, or proteins, and their healing implications are nothing short of miraculous. There are many different types with a vast array of functions in the body. They awaken the body’s organs, endocrine system and other defense systems and restore their natural function. Neuropeptides act as chemicals in the brain. Structural peptides maintain healthy tissues, such as bones, muscles, skin, hair and nails. Hormonal peptides serve as messengers between systems and cells. Enzymatic peptides function within the metabolic process. Transporter peptides facilitate the transport of substances within the body.

Main Peptides Found In Kambo

The peptides listed below are only a few of the many peptides found within this magical concoction, but they are the most studied and relevant during the purgative process. Some have even been found to be effective for killing cancer, gram-positive and negative bacteria, viruses, tumors, and regulating neurotransmitters and the Vagus nerve in lab studies, and those studies are linked in the Articles and Scientific Studies tab below.

Dermorphin– Dermorphin has an opiate like effect on mu-opioid receptors, making it a very potent painkiller with effects 4000 times stronger than morphine.

Deltorphin– Deltorphin is also a powerful painkiller and delta opioid agonist.

Phyllomedusin– A neuropeptide that has a powerful effect on intestines and bowels, contributing to the purging often experienced when taking kambo.

Phyllokinin– This neuropeptide can cause a long lasting reduction in blood pressure. Both Phyllokinin and Phyllomedusin are potent vasodilators, increasing the permeability of the blood-brain barrier for their own access, as well as for that of other active peptides. Both also possess antimicrobial and antifungal properties.

Phyllocaerulein and Sauvagines– Potent painkillers that reduce blood pressure and affects thermoregulation. They stimulate the adrenal cortex and pituitary gland, contributing to greater sensory perception and increased resistance. Both peptides contribute to the increase of physical strength, the capacity to confront physical pain, stress, disease, and diminish the symptoms of fatigue.

Adenoregulin– A 33 amino acid peptide that works with the adenosine receptor. This antibiotic peptide can reduce the harmful effects of bacteria, fungi, and protozoa, including cancer cells. They work on the human body through the adenosine receptors, and offer a target for the treatment of depression, stroke, and cognitive diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s.

Dermaseptin– Shows powerful antimicrobial activity against bacteria, yeast, fungi, protozoa, and enveloped viruses that often cause severe opportunistic infections. Many clinically studied and scientifically backed studies proving its effectiveness in cancer treatment.

Tryptophyllins– Highly potent against the yeast candida, may have potential in cardiovascular, inflammatory, and anticancer therapy.

These are only the most studied aspects of the medicine. Many more studies have been done and the findings are nothing short of profound.

The Lore and Tribal History of Kambo

According to lore, Kampu, the medicine man for the Kaxinawa tribe, found himself at a loss when all of his people fell very ill, and he was unable to make them well. He decided to take a journey with ayahuasca and went into the woods for three days on a vision quest for help. In the forest, deep into his journey, he saw a female forest spirit who handed him a frog, and showed him how to harvest the medicine. He returned to his people and did as he was shown with the frog, and the administering of kambo as medicine became regular practice after the people began healing from the vision he was given, and the gift of the frog. From then, he was called Paje Kampu. It is said that when he passed on, his spirit went into the medicine to assist with the healing of all to sit with the frog medicine.

Kambo is used by Kaxinawa (Huni Kuin), Matses, Katukina, Yawanawa, Nukini, Kulina, Amahuaca, and Maruba tribes to treat infection, snake bites, infertility, malaria, to reduce pain and to improve stamina for hunting. It is also used to clear “Panema”, which translates to bad luck, dark/negative energy, lack of harmony with nature, laziness, energy blockages, lack of clarity or depression.

About The Frogs

The Phyllomedusa Bicolor frog, also called the “waxy monkey” or “giant monkey” frog, is a large and vocal being. It has no fear, as most beings of the jungle know better than to mess with it, and it has no natural predators. Their habitat is mostly in the tree canopies due to a unique waxy quality in the frog that allows it to tolerate the sun without drying out. When we went into the jungle to collect the frogs, they crawled right onto the long sticks that the boys had put right next to them. They had no fear, and little hesitation. Their sounds are quite unique, making them easy to find. They are abundant and prolific, and not at all endangered. While the frogs are NOT harmed during the process of extracting the kambo, they are made to be quite uncomfortable. It is said to bring bad luck to a village if the frogs are harmed or over harvested through greed or carelessness, and those who collect this medicine have deep reverence for these brave little beings.

Slander and Common Misconceptions

As I have continued to research kambo for updates on studies and new information backed by science, I've witnessed the tone changing in the articles that come up first in a quick search. I have already watched as groups with ulterior motives attempt to slander its reputation, making it appear to be unsafe and even deadly. With a proper dosage and a knowledgeable practitioner, along with taking necessary precautions and being completely open and honest with your practitioner about health conditions and medications, the medicine is absolutely safe. A good practitioner would never put anyone at risk, and would err on the side of caution, and I do just that.

For now, kambo is completely legal in all countries except Australia, however if the pharmaceutical companies are patenting the medicine, the laws may change in the future to persecute practitioners and protect big Pharma, as they often do. We pray for and bless the preservation of the sanctity of the medicine, that it may fulfill its highest purpose here, now and always.

Pay no mind to the fear mongering you may read about online, from the same sources that told us that an experimental medical intervention during the pandemic was safe, and now admits has increased cardiac events by over 900%. They are not truthful and they DO NOT want us to be able to heal ourselves, lest they risk losing the money they stand to gain from our fear, illness and misplaced trust.
